Every so often, I'll forget that some people don't know why I'm called "budgie". There's a link on the homepage of this blog, but of course, most people reading this livejournal are reading it via their own friends pages or the RSS feed.
And there've been a couple of new people reading this who've asked, so here's the link to the "origin story" - Why "Budgie"?
Weird to think that at the end of last year, I'd had the name for 25 years... OK, there was a break for a while, but to be honest, more people now know me as Budgie than ever think of me as Lee.
As a general rule of thumb, on this side of the pond, we don't tend to go in for the 20 or 25 year reunions so much. I think we figure that if we haven't seen people for 25 years, there's probably a reason for that...
As stuwest just reminded me, it's actually an even decade, as I took Laura and Phil (then two years old) to a comics con in 1998... the one and only time Laura accompanied me, and the last time that Phil did until he was ten years old. But, to be honest, I can't honestly recall taking Laura around my old stomping grounds.
Hey Budgie, nothing to do with where your nickname came from, but Scans Daily has a new scan of an X-Men story written by some bloke named Lee Barnett. The posters are praising the writer and everything. Actually it's the first time I read it, it's pretty good.
Last night as we were waiting in line to go see a movie, Gill is talking about how one of her coworkers still goes by a nickname they picked up in 3rd grade. half way through a sentence she stops, pauses, looks at me and asks..
So why's Budgie called Budgie?
It's only taken, what, 16 years for her to ask. It's a little spooky that at almost the same time she was asking, you were posting this.
